MeCards4Kids® & Teens
“MeCards4Kids® is an innovative collage and poetry process for children created by Nancy Weiss and Jane Raphael. It encourages the student to develop and articulate self-awareness and creative expression through an integrated and experiential process that increases visual, oral and written skills. After students create a collage, they write a poem inspired by the collage. The ‘I Am’ poem consists of sentence starters to stimulate their imagination and appreciation for their many self-aspects and affective states, including the ability to name and contain them.
MeCards4Kids® addresses the whole child in a fun and engaging manner, with its focus on social, emotional and intellectual development, and its capacity to draw children into their internal selves.”
Students gather images and collage imaginative cards to express different parts of themselves (qualities of their personalities, feelings, interests or experiences), to honor family, friends, pets or heroes, to tell a story and much more. No experience is necessary.
A packet of materials, including card backs, glue and protective sleeves, will be mailed to you prior to the workshop. You will need to supply scissors, magazines and X-acto knife for trimming the cards.

Before the workshop, you will need to gather
Cards
3 SoulCollage® mat board blank cards. If you don't have them, precut 3 cards, 5” x 8” each. (card stock, watercolor paper, index card or any heavy paper you can come up with) You can use manila folders, or cereal box if you can’t find any card paper. Be creative.
Images
Precut about 6 images prior to the workshop from magazines, book, catalogues and calendars. Glossy paper magazines are the best, like National Geographic magazines and calendars. The images can be animals, people, flowers, watches, lanterns, hearts, bathtub, hands, books, musical instruments, etc. We will use these images to glue on our background images. Let your heart choose the images. Allow your heart to take over and go with the flow. No words are allowed on SoulCollage® cards, that is the ONLY rule! Choose any image that speaks with you, either gives you a good feeling or a “strange” feeling. Try not to judge your choices. Cut small images that will fit inside a 5” x 8” card. That will be your final SoulCollage® card size.
Background images
Cut about 6 images 5” x 8” to be your background images. These images can be anything you like or dislike. Sunsets, forests, oceans, cities, inside house... Or you may purchase Catherine Anderson’s gorgeous books with copyright-free images for the making of SoulCollage® at https://amzn.to/2KM3UdS
Glue stick
Scissors Small scissors are great
